Because domestic violence and sexual assault is a shattering experience that is hard to talk about and because we want to do everything we can to encourage survivors to get help, we do not talk about our clients.

It is appropriate to talk about cases with other volunteers, in a purposeful and constructive manner, but discuss the case without using the victim’s name. Remember, the survivor has a right to privacy and it is your job to protect it. Confidentiality must be preserved on everyone’s part. Not only must we protect the survivor’s identity, but we must also protect each other.

You will be required to read and sign a Confidentiality Agreement before you begin serving as a Volunteer Advocate.
