Spartanburg, SC – October 12, 2012 – Nationally acclaimed singer/songwriter and guitarist Andrew McKnight will perform a benefit for the Safe Homes Rape Crisis Coalition on Saturday, November 10th, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spartanburg.  The 7:00 p.m. concert will showcase McKnight in a one man theatre performance.  His songs will be intertwined with humorous stories and poetic drama, traversing influences from Appalachia, tasteful slide and jazzy blues, feisty anthems, rustic folk, and even a little fancy flatpicking on a Carter Family tune. While his guitar is clearly the foundation for the concert, the touches of Native American cedar flute, djembe (African hand drum) and occasionally mandolin add mesmerizing embellishments to the show.

Safe Homes Rape Crisis Coalition, a private, nonprofit organization, provides treatment and supportive services to child and adult victims of sexual assault/abuse or domestic violence.  Since 1994, the agency has provided comprehensive services that include victim advocacy, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, education and prevention programs, support groups and therapy for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault/abuse.

Through August of this year, the Coalition had served 4,469 victims of domestic violence in Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union Counties and sheltered 200 people.  South Carolina ranks 2nd in the nation in men murdering women.

McKnight’s concert is being sponsored by the Faith and Justice Council of the church.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance by calling the church office at 585-9230 or purchased at the door.  McKnight will also be the featured speaker at the church’s 11:00 service on November 11th.  The Unitarian Universalist Church is located at 210 Henry Place in Spartanburg.
