9:45      Orders of Protection – in general

Kim Shelton, Esq.

This session will include the basics of Orders of Protection – who can file, where to file, when to file. This will also include information about where to file if the victim cannot file in Family Court or if they already have a pending family court action.

 

10:30    Preparing the Petition

Susan Chang, Esq.

This session will include specifics on what information belongs in a Petition and what is best to leave out.

 

11:15    Getting your client ready for court

Jennifer Jeffrey, Esq.

This session will address how to prepare your client for court, what evidence she needs to bring and how to prepare her to testify.

 

12:15    The Hearing and Beyond

Nashiba Boyd, Esq., Kim Shelton, Esq.

This session will include information about how the Order of Protection hearing will be conducted, what to expect from judges, what relief can be granted and other issues that arise during the hearing and immediately after.

 

1:00      Other Family Court Relief

Leslie Ragsdale Fisk, Esq.

This session will include information about custody, divorce, and separation cases in Family Court so that the advocate may spot these issues and refer the victim to an attorney if necessary.

 

1:45      Immigration Issues for Victims

Patricia Ravenhorst, Esq. or Mike Pinilla, Esq.

This session will include special issues that arise when the victim is an immigrant.
